OTHER FORD ORGANIZATIONS WITH WHOM SUPPLIERS INTERFACE
Suppliers will interface closely with several other areas within Ford. Here is a brief look at the key organizations that work with our suppliers. Product Development Product Development is responsible for vehicle design and development, including technologies to research, design, test, package, style and engineer vehicle components and systems. Design Engineering provides design direction and approval for purchased commodities and all vehicles to ensure design intent and appearance harmony. Powertrain Engineering is responsible for the product development, design, verification, release, and project management of high quality, high value engines and transmissions. Research & Vehicle Technology Engineering develops advanced designs for both Vehicle Operations and Powertrain. Manufacturing The manufacturing organization is the largest part of the company, including operations; manufacturing and plant engineering; timing, release and material control; material planning and logistics; process leadership; and packaging engineering. Vehicle Operations manage Ford's global assembly facilities, production tooling design and construction; formulate the advanced assembly processes; and troubleshoot production problems. Powertrain Operations manufacture and assemble engines, transmissions, castings and forgings used in passenger car and truck applications. Advanced Manufacturing Engineering research and develop innovative processes for assembly of vehicles and manufacturing products; identify cost-effective methods of producing products. Marketing, Sales and Service Marketing, Sales and Service markets vehicles, parts and services while maximizing owner satisfaction and customer loyalty. Ford Customer Service Division works with dealers to ensure customers receive the highest level of service and is responsible for every aspect of a vehicle after it has been sold to the customer. This group includes a purchasing function responsible for the procurement of aftermarket vehicle parts.
